The Correct Way to Fold and Lift a Real Estate A-Board (And What Not to Do!)
A-boards are a staple in real estate marketing - reliable, portable, and easy to set up. But when it comes time to pack them away, there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. Believe it or not, the simple act of folding and lifting your A-board incorrectly can damage the hinges and reduce the life of your sign.
Here’s how to fold and lift your A-board the right way:
- Start with the board still standing in its A shape.
- Fold one side in toward the middle. Take your time here - gently bring one side in without forcing it.
- Fold the other side in next. Make sure both panels are neatly aligned and flush with each other.
- Check the hinges. Before lifting, ensure that both sides are fully folded and the hinges are not under any strain.
- Lift the board only after it's folded. Now that it’s compact, you can lift and carry the board safely without putting unnecessary pressure on any components.
A common mistake we see is lifting the A-board while it's still in its A shape. This might seem like a quick shortcut, but here's what happens:
- As you lift, gravity forces the two sides to slam shut.
- This sudden movement can cause the metal or plastic sides to crush into the hinges.
- Repeated misuse can weaken or snap the hinges altogether, turning a durable A-board into a short-lived one.
Real estate signage is an investment. Protecting that investment with a little care goes a long way. Folding your A-board correctly not only keeps it in good shape but also ensures it stays professional and presentable at every open house, auction, or inspection.
